Alloy 36 (NILO 36, INVAR 36) is a Nickel-Iron, low expansion alloy which contains 36% Nickel. Invar 36 has a low coefficient of expansion from cryogenic temperatures to about +500°F (260°C). Invar 36 also retains good strength and toughness at cryogenic temperatures. Common applications include tooling for aerospace composites, standards of length, measuring devices, thermostat rods, laser components and tanks and piping for the storage and transportation of liquefied gases.

Nitronic 50 (UNS S20910) is an austenitic stainless steel with a chemical composition of approximately: 0.06% max Carbon, 20.50-23.50% Chromium, 4.0-6.0% Manganese, 1.50-3.00% Molybdenum, 11.50-13.50% Nickel, 0.20-0.40% Nitrogen, 1.00% max Silicon, and 0.030% max Sulfur, with the balance being Iron. This composition provides a high-strength, non-magnetic alloy with superior corrosion resistance, excellent toughness at cryogenic temperatures, and good mechanical properties at both high and low temperatures.
